Mandala is a Sanskrit word, meaning "circle".
Mandalas have spiritual and ritual significance in both Buddhism and Hinduism.
In the Tibetan branch of Vajrayana Buddhism, mandalas have been developed into sandpainting.
Mandalas are often considered a "window" to your inner self, your soul,
the outer circle thus functioning as the skin of your body.
Drawing a mandala can bring to meditation and closer to your true feelings.
In The Netherlands, where I lived till end 2003, many people love drawing mandalas!
Also a great variety of books on this subject is available in book stores and libraries.
After my immigration to New Zealand I was disappointed
that here Mandalas are unknown to the majortity of people, so I considered myself lucky I had bought a series of books in The Netherlands.
I am not good in drawing, to say the least of it!
But after doing a course in Hilversum I found that in fact anybody can draw mandalas,
providing you learn something about what they are
and you're not afraid
to take up your pencil, draw a circle and... just start!
Maybe I can inspire you and feed your curiosity by showing you my mandalas
Remember... I'm not an artist with drawing skills!
As I happen to have some skills on the computer I also create mandalas in a graphical program.
